More than 11,000 votes were received, with the top 10 ideas now chosen by the people of Darwin. The ideas continue to support transformation in the city centre, as well as empower local businesses and community members to help implement change and create positive action for the city. Each successful idea will be implemented over coming months, with several ideas already well underway.

The top ten ideas are:

  3. A cinema screen set-up at Darwin Waterfront’s wave pool to create a swim-in movie theatre.
  4. The suspension of a mass of flowering orchids onto shade structures within the Mall to introduce more colour and greenery.
  5. The creation and installation of green, growing pillars at the Daly Street entrance to the city.
  6. A new art installation and design between laneways and pathways across the city to create unity, brighten and modernise the city.
  7. The introduction of a temporary, tropical summer market place at the Esplanade.
  8. A new installation referencing our relationship with nature and water and featuring colourful plants and lighting.
  9. A regular program of live music across the city’s green spaces, creating a more positive atmosphere.
  10. The projection of moving images and artwork on walls across the city.
