Since 1 October 2023, the Gove Peninsula Harmony Group, with assistance from the NT Government, has implemented trial changes to the Gove Peninsula Takeaway Alcohol Permit System. The primary objective of these permit changes has been to support safer and stronger East Arnhem communities.

Three month trial data from NT Police and NT Health has shown a decrease in alcohol related assaults across the Gove Peninsula and a decrease in alcohol related presentations at the Gove District Hospital.

On the basis of this data and community interest to continue the trial, The Gove Peninsula Harmony Group has recommended that the NT Government extend the current trial for a further 12 months, commencing 1 April, 2024.

The Gove Peninsula Takeaway Alcohol Permit System trial will now end on 31 March 2025.

This extension will allow for stronger evaluation of data over a longer period so the Gove Peninsula Harmony Group to determine the effectiveness of the trial permit system in reducing alcohol based harm in the East Arnhem Region.
